Sosopworld.com understands that its Arts, Crafts Programs cannot please every members’ taste and needs. So, we will try to please the majority.
Because our membership will want a variety of information from Paint-by-Number kits to the old master painters, sosopworld.com will try to accommodate as many members as possible.
We will give two or three options when we recommend a product, service or event.
The majority of information will be tailored to the 50+ population and directed at products, services and events that cater to seniors.
Affordability will be given top priority over accessibility.

Arts
- Visual arts –The visual arts are art forms such as painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, photography, video, filmmaking, design, crafts and architecture. Many artistic disciplines such as performing arts, conceptual art, and textile arts also involve aspects of visual arts as well as arts of other types.

Crafts
- Craft Stores – a shop that sells decorative objects made by hand or the materials and tools used for making such objects.
- Hobbies – A hobby is a regular activity done for enjoyment, typically during one’s free time.
- Collecting – to bring together into one body or place. To gather or exact from a number of persons or sources. To gather an accumulation of (objects) especially as a hobby collects stamps.
- Woodworking – Woodworking is defined as the act of making wood into useful or decorative items. An example of woodworking is making a chair. noun. 1. The crafts of carpentry, cabinet making and related skills of making things from wood.
- Wine Cork Vase –Make these wine cork vases with corks you’ve saved and thrift store vases. A thrifty DIY project that makes a great homemade gift!
- Ribbon Vase – A metal band, curved to hold water and support flowers, is suspended securely within parallel walls of plated glass.
- Painted Glass Vase – Firstly, and more correctly, it means enameled glass, normally relatively small vessels which have been painted with preparations of vitreous enamel, and then fixed by a light firing to melt them and fuse them to the glass surface.
- Finger Painting – a technique of spreading pigment on paper chiefly with the fingers.
- DIY Coasters – protect the surface of a table or any other surface where the user might place a drink. Coasters placed on top of a beverage can also be used to show that a drink is not finished or to prevent contamination (usually from insects). - DIY Serving Tray – A serving tray is a versatile item for the home that can offer both functional and stylish features to your everyday life. Even though a serving tray is traditionally used for serving up food and drinks, it can be a great way to keep a messy and disorganized space tidy, as well as being aesthetically pleasing.
- Flower Art – such art forms with depictions of flowers, flower bearing plants or other flower related materials are collectively referred to as Floral Art Forms or flower art forms.
- Handmade Pottery – the art or craft of making objects (as dishes and vases) out of clay. Objects made from clay that is shaped while moist and hardened by heat.
- Needle Work – work done with a needle especially: work (such as embroidery) other than plain sewing. Also, the occupation of one who does needlework.
- Crochet Work – A craft that developed in the 19th century out of a form of chain-stitch embroidery done with a hook instead of a needle. In crochet work the hook is used, without a foundation material, to make a texture of looped and interlinked chains of thread.
- Yarn Weaving – Weaving is a method of textile production in which two distinct sets of yarns or threads are interlaced at right angles to form a fabric or cloth. Other methods are knitting, crocheting, felting, and braiding or plaiting.
- Fashion Upcycling – Upcycling is generally understood as a design-based circular fashion approach, where pre- or post-consumer textile waste material is repurposed to create new garments. Upcycling is a growing trend among fashion designers, helping to save resources and keep tons of textile waste out of the waste stream.
- Sewing – Sewing is the activity of making or mending clothes or other things using a needle and thread. Synonyms: needlework, stitching, needlecraft More Synonyms of sewing.
- Quilting – Quilting is the process of sewing two or more layers of fabric together to make a thicker padded material, usually to create a quilt or quilted garment. Typically, quilting is done with three layers: the top fabric or quilt top, batting or insulating material and backing material, but many different styles are adopted.

Choose to participate in as many or few as you please. Our full-time activity manager and volunteer team will plan and organize cultural, educational and social activities to help keep you active every month. Educational:
Many of us think of our school days fondly, often for reasons that have little to do with our classroom experience. We think of football games, band concerts, drama productions, dances, or parties. However, these events and occasions have something in common with the mere classroom time we seem to forget: they all brought us together with our fellow students. These memories of people coming together can remind us of a good reason to return to education. Often, the process of growing older can isolate us from each other. As our friends pursue their own destinies, we can lose touch and find ourselves ultimately lacking the human contact we need to survive. Taking classes, particularly at local community colleges, can remedy that problem, bringing us into respectful interaction with all sorts of interesting people. In this way, going back to school—the sheer act of going—can invigorate a life by coming together with like-minded others.
Did you know that taking a class in just about any subject can improve your cognitive abilities, rejuvenate your memory, and have fun all at the same time? Recent scientific studies clearly show that senior citizens who stay mentally active enjoy all of these rewards.
Challenging our brains to grow new cells can take place at any age. For that matter, we can build new connections which help our problem-solving abilities as well as memory. The more it is used the better the brain grows.

Social Needs
When a mature person loses a spouse, a close friend, or even a pet, it can be very easy to lose perspective on life. It is all too easy slip into sadness and seclusion and stop relating with people who once filled an important part in daily life. Children (if any) have often moved away and are frequently so heavily involved in their own lives, with work, children and other obligations that they cannot spend a lot of time with their aging parents. Although experiencing loss and loneliness as a senior citizen is difficult, it is not impossible to develop a new social life. A good attitude is a major factor, as is making most of the opportunities that come your way. Here are some ways that you can begin to build a fulfilling social life for yourself that will help you to live meaningfully and with purpose.

Further ideas you might like consider include:
- Season ticket packages for concerts and/or plays.
- Painting
- Building bird houses, making doll clothes, volunteering at your hospital or shelter.
- Adult education classes. Perhaps you’d like to learn about computers, or obtain your high school diploma or degree. Many facilities offer physical classes such as low-impact jazzercise or yoga.
- Volunteer at the library to teach adults to read.
- Join a chess or bridge club.
- Reading and story-telling to youngsters at the library.
- Visit your local senior center. Take a trip to learn what activities are offered; something is certain to tickle your fancy.

Know your physical limitations. Consult with your personal physician prior to beginning a new physical activity.
If you have difficulty with your eyesight and reading, first ensure that you have the best possible medical attention and eye examinations. Get the most suitable eyeglasses for your needs. Ask for books with large print; these are available at many libraries. It is also possible to increase the size of the font on your computer and Internet; ask someone for help if you cannot work out how to do this yourself.
